A great desire to create a faster, more effective counselling method was Gary Craig’s aim in the early 1990’s.  Gary came across the work of Dr Roger Callahan, who had  discovered that tapping under the eye cleared a long-term water phobia for his patient, Mary.  Mary had been seeking relief for this phobia with Dr Callahan, who had recently studied applied kinesiology.  Their accidental discovery lead Gary Craig to develop the amazing healing tool of Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) also known by Tapping.

 

HOW IT WORKS

Gary Craig’s Discovery Statement says that ‘All negative emotions are caused by a disruption in the body’s energy system.’  Tapping on the energy meridians in your body clears the disruption (like a kink in a hose) and releases the negative emotion.  Often the result is a change in the cognition of the event for the client.  At the very least the client feels released from the negative emotion – many say ‘it just doesn’t matter anymore’.

  • Imagine the comfort of knowing that you can calm yourself from and anxiety or even a panic attack without needing anyone or anything else apart from the knowledge of how to do EFT

 

YOU CAN TRY THIS RIGHT NOW FOR YOURSELF

Think of an event that has bothered you.  Start with something simple like the person who pushed in front of you in the queue at the supermarket.  Take a small piece of the event (preferably 30-seconds long).  Give it a name and an intensity out of ten.  The name could be the emotion you experienced or a movie title, for example ‘Horror Movie’.

Now tap on the fleshy part of the side of either hand or on the Sore Spot shown below, and say ‘Even though I have this (feeling or movie title), I choose to accept myself anyway.

Next tap on the crown of your head seven to ten times and say ‘this (feeling or movie title)’.

Tap seven to ten times while saying the feeling or movie title words, on each of the following points:

  • Eyebrow
  • Side of Eye
  • Under Eye
  • Under Nose
  • Under Lip (in the dip in your chin)
  • Collar bone
  • Under arm
  • Crown

Now look back at the 30-second part of your event and see how it feels.  What you will probably notice is that the intensity comes down with each round of tapping.  You want to reach 0/10 eventually.
